The name means "hidden" in Spanish—it occupies a shallow valley ringed by
rocky hills. Founded in 1888, it is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County.

in Diegueño. A nationwide study in 2005 ranked Escondido #11 out of 25 of
the most conservative cities in America. As of the 2000 census, there are 133,559

Queen Califa's Magic Circle Garden

The only American sculpture garden and the last majoy international project created
by Niki De Saint Phalle. Inspired by California's mythic, historic and cultural
roots, the garden consists of nine large - scale sculptures, a circular "snake"
wall and maze entryway, sculpturally integrated bench seating and native shrubs
and trees planted within the interior plaza and along the outer perimeter.
