Kentucky - Louisville
Cathedral of the Assumption
Louisville’s historic cathedral was completed in 1852 and the interior was restored in 1994. The beautiful Gothic Revival style building features one of the largest and oldest surviving examples of hand-painted stained glass windows in the United States. The cathedral also has ornate columns, pointed arches and ribbed ceiling vaulting. The ceiling is decorated with 8,000 24-carat gold stars on a blue background. The Cathedral Heritage Foundation puts on various art, music and lecture programmes in the Cathedral throughout the year.
